Low-pathogenic avian influenza (H7) has been confirmed in a scarlet ibis that was found dead in the South America aviary at Odense Zoo. The bird was tested by the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, and there have been no further deaths or signs of illness among the other birds.
This strain of avian influenza is not dangerous to humans. However, people can still carry the virus with them, for example by stepping in bird droppings.
Following guidance from the Danish Veterinary and Food Administration, the South America aviary and the Tropical House were temporarily closed. All birds have now been moved indoors, and the aviary has been thoroughly cleaned. The aviary and the Tropical House have therefore reopened.
Entry to the aviary is at your own risk.
