Chimpanzees live in communities of 15 to 120 within a territory that they defend from other communities. Chimpanzees are highly intelligent animals bearing a strong resemblance to humans and sharing 98% of our hereditary material.

The chimpanzee is the only primate that regularly uses tools. They can fish out termites with a blade of grass, for instance. Termites are social insects which live in mounds or nests. Odense Zoo let the chimpanzees “fish for termites” in some artificial termite nests out on the islands. Something sweet has been added to the nests which the chimps try to remove with a stick.
