Little is known about whether caracals live alone or in pairs. These very active cats are also diurnal. They catch prey of all sizes ranging from mice to gazelles and are incredibly skilled at catching birds in flight. Their long hind legs enable them to jump very high, up to 5 metres. Because the caracal is one of the fastest predators of its size and because of its excellent climbing and jumping skills, they have been trained to hunt hares, birds and other small prey. Pregnant females make lairs in embankments or thick vegetation.
