Red-footed Tortoise
Geochelone carbonaria
The red-footed tortoise is one of the few tortoises that live in humid rain forests.
They primarily eat fallen fruit, but also prefer flowers, leaves, carrion, snails, insects and mushrooms.
The female lays 3–6 eggs in a hole in the ground. She covers the hole and the eggs hatch 2½ months later. The adults do not take care of the children.
